Reading Words – EYFS/YR1
We send home reading words when children first start reading books with words in. You can find these to download just below, so that you can move on to your next set and keep practising at home!
Please remember that you need to use your phonics for the Phase 2 and 3 sets of words, and you need to be able to sound out the words and blend independently until you can read them by sounding out just in your head or by sight!
The tricky words are also below. You need to just know these words by sight as they cannot be sounded out.
HAVE FUN WITH THEM! Play matching games, write them on big bits of paper and put them all around your house then have a scavenger hunt for them, play snap using the words, write them in chalk on the ground and throw an object then read the word it lands on – anything you can think of!

If you are looking for more books to read at the right level then you can register for free at Oxford Owl. There are free ebooks to access and we use these books as part of our school book scheme! You can search for an appropriate e-book by age, Letters and Sounds Phonics Phase or by the colour book band you are on.
